Education
The Solid Waste Management District currently contracts with GT Environmental, Inc. of Westerville, Ohio to provide a local education specialist, Wanda Schaad of Belpre, in an effort to disseminate information about the benefits of solid waste reduction, recycling, and the proper methods of management for solid waste generated in the home and businesses. (Please note that Ms. Schaad has recently replaced Kathy Bartunek.)
This program is designed to provide information about the benefits of recycling and proper solid waste disposal methods available throughout the District. The curriculum is currently available to grades 5 – 12 in all private and public schools located in the District.
Curriculum has been developed that complies with state standardized achievement testing requirements. In addition to this, the District provides funding for local students to visit recycling centers, solid waste transfer stations & landfills, and local manufacturing companies that produce consumer products from recyclable material feedstock.
